PhoneView Licensing Details

PhoneView is a single application the by default without any license installed will run with Free features enabled, this is typically includes most/all features turned on, but the number of phones available for use is limited to 50.

License Types

There are two main types of PhoneView license:

• Installation - Tied to the PC
• Cluster - Tied to the CUCM Cluster(s)

Engineer & Helpdesk Edition

These editions are both Installation based licenses, therefore a license installed on a particular PC is bound to that PC. This is accomplished using a fingerprint generated for that PC based on a number of unique hardware elements, so even if the operating system is upgraded the PhoneView license should still be valid.

Enterprise Edition

This edition is tied to the licensed clusters based on a unique 'System Key' for each cluster, the 'System Key' does not change when CUCM is upgraded on the same installation. Enterprise Edition permits unlimited installations of PhoneView, however each installation needs to be activated as an Enterprise license includes multiple license types:

• Standard: This permits full access to any licensed cluster with the ability to perform bulk actions
• Helpdesk: This permits access to any licensed cluster with the restriction that no more than 2 devices can be selected/controlled at any one time
• Standard-Audio: This is the same as Standard but with the addition of the 'Remote Audio' feature
• Helpdesk-Audio: This is the same as Helpdesk but with the addition of the 'Remote Audio' feature

Cluster licensing

When using a cluster based license (i.e. Enterprise Edition) each cluster in the organisation needs to be activated. When a cluster is added to a PC that has a  Enterprise/cluster based license and it has not previously been activated the user is prompted to enter a 'Master' license key, this license key in the only one that is capable of activating clusters. Once the cluster is activated any subsequent license installations will include the details of all activated clusters, therefor they will be available for use without further activation. If a cluster is activated after a number of users have installed and activated PhoneView on their local PC, they will need to re-activate (re-enter the license key string) in order to download an updated list of activated clusters they are permitted to use.

Virtual Machines

PhoneView supports use with in a Virtual machine when using VMWare Workstation and Fusion, however distribution and sharing of a virtual machine image is not valid unless a Enterprise license is purchased. The machine fingerprint used for installation based licensing (Engineer & Helpdesk Edition) includes details that will be affected when moving a virtual machine to a new hardware platform, therefore an enterprise license key is required and needs to be re-applied when a virtual machine running PhoneView is moved. Taking and restoring a snapshot of a virtual machine is valid as long as the hardware the machine is restored too is the same, if it is different then the license key may need to be re-applied.

Terminal Server

PhoneView supports use within a terminal server environment as long as only one instance of PhoneView is running at a time, in addition the license is stored in a user specific location. Therefore a each new user of PhoneView will have to install a license key before being able to access licensed features, this permits different licensed levels of use per user.

Activation

All PhoneView licenses must be activated using the online activation service, this is normally done automatically if the machine PhoneView is installed on can communicate with the activation service. However in occasions when it's not possible to activate online the user will be prompted to save a license file to their local PC for off-line activation. For activation the file can be uploaded to:

As part of the activation process an 'activated' version of the license file will be downloaded automatically, the activated license file can then be installed in PhoneView to unlock the relevant licensed features.
