Updating the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) for PhoneView’s JTAPI Operations.
PhoneView requires a 32-bit version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) for Computer Telephony Integration (CTI) using JTAPI. By default, PhoneView installs JRE version 1.6 in the following directory:
- C:\ProgramData\UnifiedFX\JTAPI\JVM
For various organizational or security reasons, some users may need to update this embedded JRE to a newer version.
Currently, UnifiedFX does not include a newer JRE version with PhoneView by default. However, users can independently install a compatible OpenJDK runtime and configure it to work with PhoneView.
Steps to Update the Embedded JRE in PhoneView
Follow the steps below to remove the existing embedded JRE and install an updated OpenJDK JRE:
1. Remove the Existing Embedded JRE
- Delete the following directory from the PhoneView system:
- C:\ProgramData\UnifiedFX\JTAPI\JVM
Note: It is crucial to install a compatible 32-bit version of JRE after removing the embedded JRE for PhoneView to function properly.
2. Download and Install OpenJDK 32-bit JRE
- Download the OpenJDK 32-bit JRE (.msi) installer from the following link:
OpenJDK Download Page
- During installation, select the option to Set/Override the JAVA_HOME variable to ensure the new JRE is recognized by PhoneView.
3. Restart PhoneView and Test
- Once installed, restart PhoneView and test a remote control operation to confirm successful integration of new JRE.
By following these steps, you can ensure that PhoneView is running with an updated, supported JRE version that meets your organization’s requirements.
